This class will combine Sthira and Sukham Asanam's. Sthira means steady and alert -- to embody sthira, the pose must be strong and active. Sukha means comfortable and light -- to express sukha, the pose must be joyful and soft. This class will cover poses that have effort (Sthira) and ease (Sukha) for the benefit of the whole body. We’re pretty easy going, but we do request that you arrive at least 10 minutes early (we lock the doors 5 minutes before class), take off your shoes when entering, turn your phone off, and that you avoid wearing perfumes or other fragrances. Most of all, have fun! There is no judgement, no fashion show, no one having a practice better than anyone elses - just a great workout and great people.
Please do not bring food into the yoga studio. Water only - in a closed container - is persmissable. Thank you for your cooperation in this area.
YES is not responsible for personal property brought into studio, so please be aware of your belongings. Any property left over 3 weeks will be donated to charity.
HELPHFUL HINTS FOR YOUR YOGA PRACTICE
- Recognize that simply attending a yoga class is a major statement of courage, self-care and positive momentum.
- Pay more attention to your internal experience rather than to your outer performance (that is why we don’t have mirrors) .
- Find an edge in the pose for yourself where you are challenged but not overwhelmed and maintain a clear, open & accepting mind.
- Give yourself permission to take a break and rest.
- Pay attention to what you are saying to yourself as you practice. Come back to an intention that is positive; give yourself appreciation for your effort and innate goodness.
- Go to class regularly, arrive a little early and talk with the other students.
- Recognize that you are developing qualities like patience, compassion, discipline, wisdom, right effort, kindness, gratitude and many others that create a steady and soft mind.
- Have fun and enjoy the practice!
